If you decided to hire a new employee tomorrow, would you have a job description ready to go? Do you have the right paperwork for them to sign? How would you train them? Will they understand how to be HIPAA compliant? Do you know what kind of employee would be the best for your business?

If you hesitated while answering any of the above questions, it might be time to look at your HR procedures.

We want to help you out by passing on some of the best HR advice we’ve discovered.

The first thing to keep in mind is that diversity matters. It is the mother of business innovation! This can mean diversity of ideas, diversity of expertise, diversity of experience, diversity of personal background, and so much more.

The problem is, most hiring managers tend to go for candidates like them, the ones who will easily fit into company culture. These candidates may be great on their own, but the best candidate for you is the one who brings something to the table that you don’t already have.

The next piece of advice to keep in mind is that it’s important to know your numbers.

As a group of proud nerds, we are here to say that analytics matter! And they matter as much for your hiring practices as they do for your marketing practices.

You don’t need to get caught up in the small stuff, it can lead you in the wrong direction. Try to focus your analytics on your overall business goals, and how the company as a whole are reaching them.

If you do break analysis into departments, and you see an egregious shortcoming in one area, analyze further. What factors could be contributing to the shortcoming? Are the employees missing something they need to support their work? Are the procedures clear? Are job descriptions clear?

Never demand more from your employees without asking what they need to succeed first.
